FHM came under fire once for naming androgynous male model Andrej Pejic as the 98th sexiest woman in the world, and had later apologized for referring to the Aussie model as a 'thing' online. On the model's online profile, posted on FHM's website, the 19-year-old was unkindly referred to as a 'blonde gender bender', a 'professional cross-dresser' and a 'thing'.

Bella in fact apologised saying she didn't realise the potential double meaning of the cover. She said she didn't find anything offensive when she first saw the pictures. For her, it seemed just like a group of girls being photographed.
